"March the 17th is 'St Patrick's Day'! St Patrick was from Ireland and a long, long time ago he helped many of the people from Ireland. When he died the Irish people decided to hold a special celebration every year to celebrate all the kind and helpful things he did for the people of Ireland. Many people around the world celebrate St Patrick's Day in lots of different ways. They wear green and join in with singing and dancing in a parade. A shamrock is a symbol of this day and we made a shamrock collage. We wore green and cooked a traditional 'Irish Stew'! We also did some Irish dancing of our own!" -Pre-K "This week we have been celebrating our Mummy's and Daddy's! We love them SO much and are thankful for all the things they do for us. Ms Gemma read a story about a hare who loves his mummy. We then made some cool, hand print cards to show our parents just how much we love them!" - Pre-K students "What is a birthday celebration without birthday CAKE!?!" "Look what we baked in class! A very chocolate cake." -Ms Gemma "Pre-K students identified that to have a Birthday party, we needed to make some party food! Students used their fine motor skills to make jam and cheese sandwiches."- Ms Gemma "Pre-K students decided they needed hats to wear at their 'Birthday' celebration party. So we made these really cool, colorful ones."-Ms Gemma
"We have been patterning while making birthday cards for each other!"
"We also made invitations to give to our friends for our pretend birthday party on Thursday." -Ms Gemma Ms Gemma's class has been talking about their new unit 'Who we are' "What is a Celebration?" We came up with many different ideas, about what we think celebration is.
Then we realized that not matter where we are from in the world, we ALL celebrate birthdays! |
Welcome to Pre-Kindergarten class 2014.
I am your child’s teacher and the GWA Dubai Pre-K team leader. I am from Bedfordshire, England where I studied in Early Childhood Education. After my studies I taught Pre-school in England and then I moved to Dubai. I have lived here for over five years with my partner. This is my seventh year teaching at GEMS World Academy Dubai. Over this time I have worked within and helped develop the GWA Early Childhood program. We are all lifelong learners and last year I had the privilege of attending a course in Italy on ‘The Reggio Approach’ to education. This year I am furthering my knowledge of Montessori practices within Early Years by studying with the University of London. As an early childhood practitioner I am focused on providing a happy and joyful pre-school experience for both students and parents. My classroom is always full of excitement and celebrates personal achievements. I believe emotional engagement is the key to powerful learning and that is why I enjoy bringing love, laughter and passion into my classrooms. I look forward to working with you and your child, if you have any concerns or questions please email me, my door is always open.
